Phase 1 Basic military self-defence and CQC observer pre-intake induction training

Between November and December 2020 and January and February 2021, we invite you to observe our introductory Phase 1 Basic military self-defence and CQC, allowing you to determine if applying for an intake fits with your wants and needs. To be eligble, you must meet the responsible attendee no obligation observer conditions and follow attendee provided instructions. The training location is the Todd Group HQ, in Dunedin Central, details provided on application acceptance.

All new exponents enter the Todd Group as Phase 1 entry level exponents. Phase 1 exponents must complete the mandatory 100 hours of depot or HQ instructing, or complete a week-long intensive course of instruction before volunteering for phase one testing. Phase 1 training includes:

  • Unarmed offensive and unarmed counter offensive assault
  • Edged and bludgeon weapon disarming at all ranges including being held at weapon point (phase ambush)
  • Preventing and escaping all holds and grabs
  • Psychological conditioning and preparation for actions on close quarters combat (CQC) / military self-defence (MSD)
  • Medical aspects of close combat
  • Combat conditioning (Toughener and Sickener phases)

    If you submit the application below and do not complete the required application requirements you will not be accepted for any future Todd Group HQ, depots or exported national or international training/courses you may apply for. Only responsible committed individuals of integrity should apply as training in our military self-defence and close quarters combat as a civilian is a privilege and not a given right.
