Read before you applyThe Todd Group was established in 1927 and we are the only training providers of our European mil elite CQC/MSD (close quarters combat and military self-defence) skills sets to responsible civilians here and globally. The course is conducted under the command of a qualified military elite close combat/military self-defence Master-Chief instructor and our training team instructors. We have an exclusive unique Instructor lineage/qualifications dating back to WW11 and next generation mil CQB/CQC/MSD  Master-Chief instructors. There is no other private specialist training provider of our systems  in NZ or worldwide. We have a long record of training provision service  in our European mil elite close combat/self-defence trade-craft skills sets. If you are not a responsible practical realist committed to self-improvement do not apply. We have stringent course joining conditions and requirements. We are private specialist training providers to military, law-enforcement, close protection agencies and responsible civilians. From the rest come the close combat best and we provide small group specialist training to identify those that have what it takes to excel. We are the trade-craft skills source that develops the individual tactics skills and training packages. This is our full time commitment not just a hobby.

Course cut-off date for course to be confirmed or cancelledMarch 7th 2025 if the required exponent numbers are confirmed the course will be confirmed. If the required numbers are not confirmed in a specific training phase or phases the course may continue with those training phases being cancelled and the training phase or phases with the required exponent numbers being confirmed.  Like with most courses the required numbers are achieved earlier than the cut-off date and all accepted attendees will be advised by email that the course is confirmed and will be conducted.
Important considerations prior to course confirm / cancel cut-off dateDo not apply/course confirm unless you are 100% certain you will attend and participate with commitment, attention to detail, inner-resolve, safety and controlled aggression. If you apply are accepted for course joining and do not complete your accepted exponent mandatory requirements including paying your course fee, you will not be accepted on any future Todd Group courses or be accepted for  training at any Todd Group depots  by any Todd Group Instructors.                    
CQC/MSD training requires responsibility integrity reliability and commitment. If you are not a realist then CQC is not for you. This is not a sport or traditional fighting art. The Todd Group are the oldest private training provider of European military CQC/MSD of our kind and want only those with the smarts mental toughness and fitting demeanour for CQC training. New applicants and Todd Group course confirming current members must be definite attendees. Do not make flight reservations, confirm leave or undertake any other personal plans related to course attendance that can’t be cancelled until receiving confirmation of the course being conducted after the course cut-off date. Course joining requirementsComplete and return your on-line course application/confirmation and on being accepted for course joining, ensure you action all requirements as requested including course fees payment and providing  any requested additional information.
Course joining special requirementsAll new applicants including Todd Group current proponents course confirming must be committed to attending the applied for course and accept all orders and instructions on course. The course fee is non-transferable non-refundable. All attendees are required to be responsible, quietly confident exponents and respect the chain of command and course attendance conditions, CQC code of conduct, rules and regulations at all times. If you apply are accepted and pay your course fee your position on course is secured. If you do not attend the course there will be no refund and the course fee cannot be transferred to a future course.
Course application / joining conditionsCourse applications must be completed factually and honestly. Get your course application in as early as possible as the course cut-off date for confirming or cancelling courses depends on having required attending numbers by the cut-off date for the course to be conducted. No late applications accepted and once a course is cancelled it cannot be conducted.
Course confirmation Todd Group membersComplete your course confirmation as early as possible. Make sure your membership status is current and that you have returned your annual declaration. You must be a current financial member. No late course confirmations accepted and once a course is cancelled it will not be conducted.
Course joining confirmation approval Todd Group membersOn receiving your course confirmation approval, pay your course fee within 7 working days along with any accounts for uniform or training resources and provide any other required information. Your course fee must be paid within seven days of course joining confirmation acceptance or you will be removed from the course roll and any future courses applications will be declined.
Course joining applications new exponentsAfter submitting your on-line applications, if requested provide any additional required information. After your application has been processed you will receive your course joining acceptance or be declined if you do not meet the course joining requirements.
Course joining acceptance new applicantsOn acceptance and receiving your course fee invoice/statement make payment of your full course fee. Full fee refunds will be provided for any courses cancelled after the cut-off date. Payment of course fees must be paid on receiving course joining acceptance/invoice/statement and no later than seven days after receiving course joining acceptance and course fee invoice/statement. Failure to pay your full course fee as instructed  and any other course related fees such as accommodation and messing in for residential courses/uniform or resources  will result in you being removed from the course roll and will prevent you from attending any future courses/training.
Course official forms submission / processingComplete electronically the application declaration forms and submit them from the Todd Group website. Please complete all fields including signatures dates and witness requirements in typed text/click box.  No hand written forms will be accepted. You will be advised of your application being accepted or declined by email as soon as processed.
Course additional application required material / informationYou may be asked for additional application support information including a scanned copy of your current passport picture page and current driver’s license or other information such as providing a record of prior criminal history. All accepted applicants will be provided with a CQC code of conduct contract and must electronically complete it and email return it on receiving it.
Course acceptance requirementsPay course fees, read all provided information and promptly action any instructions requests or requirements for further information. Make sure you turn up with the correct uniform and kit as per instructions. If you need to purchase uniform or training kit or resources from the Todd Group make sure you do so well in advance of the course start date and have it sent to you.
Course phases of training provisionThis course comprises of three separate but simultaneously conducted courses of instruction. Phase 1 Basic new and current Phase 1 exponents, Phase 2 Advanced Todd Group members exponents and Phase 3 Specialist Todd Group members  proponents. For some training all phases will be combined.
Course additional packages / modules / subjects contentBrain to Boot mental toughness introduction. Medical aspects of CQC, Tactical primary control and Restraint time permitting and contact inoculation training.

Course participationThis is a volunteer’s course of instruction and exponents can partake or observe any training modules that they are not able to partake in. Those that are intending to volunteer for testing need to partake in all training. Some attendees want to test themselves combatively while others simply want to experience military close quarter’s combat and military self-defence, learning the skills for their knowledge and self- protection. This is up to the volunteer exponent to decide their level of participation and extent of their objective achievement requirements. Unless a candidate passes testing they do not have any rank and have not proven themselves and as such have no claim to CQC/MSD qualification or tested and proven competency and mental toughness.
Course code of conductAll attendees must conduct themselves in a mature, responsible manner at all times on and off course. Training is a privilege not a right and requires high integrity and responsible behaviour at all times. Respect the chain of command; be respectful to everyone at all times. Train for self-improvement abide by orders and instructions, always adhering to safety practices. Never cause the Todd Group respected name to be brought into disrepute. Make sure you read and abide by application/declaration conditions and provided behaviour information in your accepted applicants information email. You will be emailed a CQC code of conduct contract that you must electronically complete and return. Remember your status in regard to rank and do not conduct yourself outside your Todd Group achieved rank position and status.  
Primary training objectives briefThe primary training objectives are for all exponents on course to increase their knowledge and capabilities in the most current and proven Todd Group Systems military self-defence and military close quarters combat. The intensity of the training is determined by the commitment and inner- resolve of the individual exponent.
Course fees new exponentsPhase 1 new entry-level exponents $600.00 NZD.

Course qualifications / CertificationAll exponents on course that complete their week-long intensive training course will receive certification of course completion. Candidates that undertake the phase 1 or phase 2 test and successfully pass it will receive their phase test certification post course.
Course Phase test briefThe phase 1 test requires the individual candidate to have high level proficiency inner resolve and commitment in the execution of the phase 1 basic skills including the required training hours (100 training hours or completion of a full week long intensive course). The phase test consists of a toughener and sickener phase to test the candidate’s inner resolve physicality  and intestinal fortitude  followed by the testing of their  self-defence capabilities. It also includes technique to command drill to ensure the candidates know the skills by title and execution. The combative phase sees the candidates pitted against each other in combative actions on   encounters where the candidates must employ the skills of phase 1 to achieve their objective. The candidates must also complete a BHE (battle handling exercises) circuit assessing deciding and employing correct threat neutralisation tactics and skills. The Phase 2 advanced testing requires 400 minimum mandatory training hours before volunteering for testing. Phase 2 candidates need to be physically up for the testing regime.
Course Additional / Auxiliary trainingThese intensive courses of CQC/MSD/CQB instruction will also include training in psychological conditioning to overcome fear and enhance combative mental toughness (Brain to Boot program). An introduction to CQC contact inoculation training and (tactical control and restraint time permitting) will be delivered.
Special eventsAnnual prize giving and course ending function all ranks attending the course must be present.

Additional course expensesYour own flights/transport and personal funds. CQC uniform requirements and a CQC neck protector, Brain to Boot manual that you should purchase prior to the course and read to familiarise yourself with the terminology tactics and skills. You will receive a password on purchasing your copy that will give you access to the B2B audio training exercises. $50.00 per B2B copy of the manual.

No unauthorised audio, video or still photographs permitted at any time.

Course training / testing related informationAttitude is most important to competency achievement. Skill first, then increases in speed to achieve momentum/velocity. Less is more in the sense of individual primary skills selection and competency/proficiency increases. Train with quietly confident commitment to self-improvement. Train with safety accuracy and controlled aggression. Common sense must prevail in volunteering for phase testing. Your competency proficiency and confidence must be high across all test requirements. You must have a never quit mentality.

Additional / Miscellaneous informationA full email information pack will be provided to all accepted exponents after paying their full course fee and any other payments for services/supplies. This information pack will include all information in relation to directions logistics Kit requirements rules regulations and conditions. This is a unique opportunity for civilians to experience military CQC and military self- defence living it the intensive military way in camp  over a one-week long training duration. Exponents are required and expected to be quietly confident committed and respectful to the instructors, exponents, staff guests and visitors. The course manager/coordinator and instructors are there to ensure you have a very realistic and special combative experience with the opportunity to challenge yourself at a level that meets your capabilities and requirements. If you have goals to advance up through the ranks including becoming  a Todd Group depot instructor in your country of residence  and location, then it all begins with undertaking this week-long intensive course of instruction, volunteering for the phase 1 test and passing your phase 1 test. If you are a practical realist quietly confident and committed to self-improvement and objective achievement you have a good chance of achieving your objectives and passing the phase test. Unless a candidate passes testing they do not have any rank and have not proven themselves and as such have no claim to CQC/MSD qualification or tested and proven competency and mental toughness.  Instructor qualification requirements include attending a week long course and undertaking assistant instructor training and assessment as well as attending a week long intensive course of instruction undertaking instructor under assessment training and testing.
